Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs
We were supposed to go on a family camping trip this weekend but, as luck would have it, our plans changed and we were not able to go. Luckily, I have super awesome parents and they gave us their free night at The Pointe Tapatio. Super excited!
When I received the confirmation email, I saw that check in wasn't until 4pm. That was disappointing, but I called and they said we could come whenever we wanted, store our bags, and use the pool. Yay! We attempted to arrive around noon, but being parents of 6mo and 6yr old girls, that did not happen. We finally got to the resort about 2:30. Luckily, our room was ready! Another little happy dance.
Our room was on the 3rd floor of building 17 and very nice. It had a small living room before opening up to the bedroom. The living room had a desk, couch, mini bar, and tv. Our bedroom had a king bed, dresser, and another tv. We had a small balcony that overlooked the resort. I'll post photos. More important than our room was getting to the pool! Down we went!
The Pointe Tapatio has quite a few pools, but the main one is Falls Village. This has a small souvenir shop, bar/restaurant, water slide, and tons of lounge chairs. We had to have wrist bands to get into the pool and when you go through the gate, your bags get checked by security. So much for bringing our own beer. *sad face* Anyway, we found 2 lounge chairs among the absolute sea of people. We literally had to weave our way through kids, adults, chairs, shoes, etc. It was chaos.
Once we were finally ready to get into the pool, I saw just how cloudy the pool was. There were so many bodies in the water, I can only imagine the amount of oils, sunscreen, and child pee that were floating around. I'm weird about public pools but I don't want to pass that weirdness onto my daughter, so I sucked it up and hopped in. We had a lot of fun and hung out for about 3 hours. The food and drinks are appropriately priced, given that we were at a resort, about $8 for draft beer, $10 for cocktails, and $7.95 for a quesadilla. At sundown, they started a dive in movie, but our daughter was tired, so we headed back to the room around 7:30.
We were going to get dressed and go to dinner, but Alyssa was sleepy so we ordered room service. My husband and I got turkey burgers and, holy cow, they were awesome! They were stuffed with gorgonzola and mushrooms and topped with lettuce, and a seasoned mayo. Lip smacking delicious! Honestly, it didn't even taste like a turkey burger.
Sunday morning, we were going to go back to the pool before our 11am check out, but Alyssa had a bit of an accident where she knocked out her front tooth, so we had to head out at 9:30 instead. We did order room service for breakfast, though. We kept it light and relatively inexpensive; bagel, croissant, muffin, and banana bread.
When we checked out, our total came to $156, which included the resort fee, 2 turkey burgers with fries, 2 cokes, a dessert, a bagel, bakery platter, orange juice, and apple juice.
We had a great little staycation and the only pit falls were the busy pool, handicap shower that flooded our bathroom, and the tooth incident. But, housekeeping took care of the bathroom within 20 minutes and Alyssa's tooth was not the hotel's fault.
There's a reason The Pointe has remained in business for so long! Their product is beautiful and their service is really top quality. I would highly recommend this place for both locals looking for a getaway and out-of-towners. It's pretty centrally located, at 7th street and Thunderbird, so it's pretty easy to get around town.
I would love to go back with just my husband, so if anyone reading this wants to give me a free night, I will not object!
